Council Meetings: Are held on the second Tuesday of every month.
TAX INFORMATION
Tax Payment Instructions: Cheques should be made payable to Township of Brethour. Please record your tax roll number on the cheque and include the payment stub. E-transfers to: brethourfinance@parolink.net.

Vacant Councillor Seat
On October 14, 2024, the Council of the Township of Brethour declared the office of Councillor Donna Bellinger, vacant due to personal reasons.
Council chose to fill the vacancy by appointing an eligible elector in accordance with Section 263 of the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c. 25.
The Township of Brethour is accepting applications to replace the vacant office in accordance with Section 263 of the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c. 25.
The vacancy will be filled in accordance with By-Law 2025-19. Being a by-law to provide options to replace the seat of Member(s) of Council that have become vacant
Application Period
The application period closed at 3 p.m. on November 6th, 2025.
A candidate may withdraw their application by filing a written withdrawal in person with the Clerk's Office by 2 p.m. on November 4th, 2025.
Applicant Information
Interested applicants should must meet the following criteria as prescribed in section 256 of the Municipal Act, 2011 Which sets out the eligibility requirements for persons qualified to be elected or to hold office as a member of a Council of a local municipality.
To be an elector, the person under consideration must, on voting day,
(a) reside in the municipality or be the owner or tenant of land there, or the spouse of such owner or tenant,
(b) be a Canadian Citizen,
(c) be at least 18 years old and
(d) not be prohibited from voting.
Applicants must complete and submit the following document in person to the Clerk at the Township of Brethour Office, located at 051476 Brethour Road Belle Vallee, ON P0J 1A0, in order to be considered for this vacancy. Expression of Interest for consideration of Council including the applicant's background information, relevant qualifications, and why the person is interested in the vacant office. Expressions of Interest will be typewritten on letter size (8.5" x 11") paper; shall not exceed two (2) pages in length, one sided; and will include the applicant's name and address.

An Uncertified List of Candidates will be posted as applications are filed outside of the Brethour Township office. The Official List of Candidates will be certified and posted by the Clerk by 4 p.m. on November 10th, 2025 in the same location.
Successful candidate appointment
After Review of all candidate information; the council will by vote select to appoint the successful candidate on November 11th at the regularly scheduled meeting. The successful candidate will be notified thereinafter and will be sworn in at the next regularly held council meeting scheduled for December 9th 2025.
